WHAT TYPE OF COAL TO CHOOSE TO OPERATE A BOILER?

Coal is the main operating fuel for boilers at large enterprises used for production activities. But not all types of coal are suitable for use in this boiler equipment. We invite you to join Thuan Hai in finding the answer to the question: Which type of coal is suitable for operating a boiler in the summary article below.

Coal is the main operating fuel for boilers at large enterprises used for production activities. But not all types of coal are suitable for use in this boiler equipment. We invite you to join Thuan Hai in finding the answer to the question: Which type of coal is suitable for operating a boiler in the summary article below.

Fluidized bed boiler

A fluidized bed boiler, also known as a fluidized bed boiler, is a boiler that uses a fluidized bed combustion chamber to burn fuel. The fluidized bed combustion chamber creates very good mixing conditions over the entire area of the combustion chamber, so the fuel will burn completely while the temperature of the combustion chamber is not too high, reducing the emission of harmful gases.

With a special structure, the type of coal used for fluidized bed boilers is usually small in size, has low volatile matter, moisture content (ARB) < 25, and corresponding calorific value (ARB) as follows:

Burning with base slag (non-circulating): 3800 – 4100
Burning with base slag (circulating): 5200 – 5700
Sand combustion fluidity: 3800 – 4100

To operate a fluidized bed boiler, you need to choose coal with a small size, from 0 mm to 10 mm.

Chain grate boiler

A chain grate boiler is a device that uses heat from burned fuel to heat water into steam to serve production or electricity generation needs. Depending on the purpose, the generated steam source has the appropriate temperature and pressure. Chain grate boilers have combustion chambers with the highest level of mechanization among the types of grate combustion chambers that burn fuel in layers.

Chain grate boilers are suitable for burning large sized coal (up to 50mm grain size), humidity (ARB) < 40, corresponding calorific value (ARB) as follows:

Furnace load below 50%: 3800 – 4100
Furnace load from 50% to 75%: 4800 – 5000
Furnace load greater than 75%: 5200 – 5400

To operate a chain grate boiler, you should choose large sized coal, from 0 to 30 mm or from 10 to 30 mm.

The process of selecting a special type of coal needs to focus on the suitability of coal particle size and heating value for each type of boiler. Compatibility in calorific value not only improves combustion ability but also ensures efficiency and energy savings in the production process. In addition, coal particle size is an important factor for the combustion process to take place effectively and stably, helping to optimize heat conversion and furnace productivity.
